Deer Valley, take two! I’ve just returned from my second winter season visiting Deer Valley and the mountain never disappoints. This year I partnered with Deer Valley to bring along my parents and brother so that they’d have the opportunity to experience the awe of what is, the most luxurious mountain I’ve ever experienced in my life.
The ski in/ski out options are endless when it comes to lodging (chalets, condos, apartments, hotels, etc.), and price points vary, so if you’re looking for an ultra-posh experience or a more rustic one, you’ve definitely got options. Last year, I stayed at One Empire, which, if you have the chance, is the ultimate ski in/out luxury (in my opinion). The facilities there can’t compare to any other ski area in the sense of fine luxury. This year, my family and I (all adults), stayed at Black Diamond Lodge, which was at the bottom of the mountain and had epic views of those skiing down the mountain. The facilities were also astounding, with a gym, sauna, steam room, aprés every day from 3:30-5, assistant to help with our skis, text assistant, and our own personal hot tub on our private deck. Our 3-bedroom condo was so spacious, and had unique decor and everything we could ask for!
Pet owners note: While many of the condos are not pet friendly (including Black Diamond), there are many options for Airbnb’s in town that allow pets, as well as the St. Regis right beside Black Diamond and the Montage, that allow pets as well. I only note this since as you all know, I have a traveling ESA cat who I bring everywhere with me. He ended up staying at a local pet-friendly Airbnb where I could come and go and visit him as I please.
The facilities, from the rental shops to the restaurants, were I would say, unlike any other ski area in that, the hospitality, cuisine, and spaciousness was incredible. From the staff who manage the lift, to the rental shop to the kitchen staff, were all so kind, helpful and nice! The staff seem like they really enjoy working there which is always really good to see.
The cuisine options at Deer Valley are out of this world and at the main lodges, most definitely not your typical ski area cafeteria options. They have everything from Phở to fine sandwiches and everything in between. It makes taking a break and enjoying the skiers from the outdoor lawn chairs easy when the food and drink is incredible.
And also check out Fireside Dining for a really unique eating experience. I’d also highly recommend the Seafood Buffet for endless options for the seafood lovers out there. Their ‘Make Your Own Chowder Bar’ is unique and delicious.
If you’re looking for a posh and luxurious ski in/ski out meal, drink, or accommodations, then Deer Valley is the perfect place for that. Everyone seems so happy at this place, and the slopes are of course, the highlight.
As someone who’s skied diamonds but appreciates cruising the greens, I thoroughly enjoy how Deer Valley has set up their runs. A beginner can take the lift to the top of the mountain, and comfortably ski all the way down on various greens, while an expert can do the same and ski double blues or diamond modules just the same. I love the greens; the views are breathtaking throughout, and there are main areas to ski through the forest on your way down, which is really special. The trails are wide and easy to follow, and they’re never overcrowded (at least they haven’t been in my two years of skiing here).
If you have the chance, go for an evening sleigh ride! We used Boulder Mountain Ranch and the horses were so happy as we rode through the slopes under a full moon.
Overall, if you’re a skier, do not miss out on skiing Deer Valley. Our family is already making it an annual tradition to come back :).
