On Women Breaking My Record

February 28, 2017

Going through the dozens of applications received for Her International so far, I can’t help but feel inspired by all of the women who not only have a dream, but are taking actionable measures in order to make that dream a reality. It takes guts, courage and commitment to make a goal come to life!

Now and then I’ll receive emails of inspiration from women who are devoting themselves towards breaking my record. It always has me thinking as to why I chose to break this particular record instead of one of the other hundreds of travel records out there… Rushing to every country for a record when I could have enjoyed the journey? As a woman, I saw an opportunity to do something that had only been achieved by man, to break through those barriers and make Women’s History. I never liked to think that I was potentially limited with what I could do in life because of my gender and I had an innate desire to want to prove this to the world as well; that women can obviously not only shatter a men’s record, but they can travel alone far and wide if they do so choose. I wonder why many women still want to beat my record and not break the glass ceiling in new ways or forms of travel and exploration, perhaps it’s just to prove to people that if it can be done once, it can be done again, with the possibility of seeing less and less each time. Either way, travel should be an enjoyable and educational journey, and by sacrificing my own ability of fully experiencing each country, my hopes were to pave the way for women who aspire to explore corners of the world and feel that they can safely do so alone. The years of hard work I put into this was able to inspire hundreds of thousands of women (and men!) around the world to do big things even if that thing is doing it all over again and for that, I am honorably humbled. In addition to Her International, I’m grateful to Guinness for ensuring proper documentation of my travels which lead to earning a spot in the National Women’s History Museum’s Outdoor Exhibit, thereby making my dream to leave a positive legacy behind, a reality. To all the future women who will break the glass ceiling! ??

North Korea part 2. This was insane. North Korea part 2. This was insane.
After last year, I can’t help but seriously plan After last year, I can’t help but seriously plan. Plan not for the expected, but for the unexpected when it comes to finances, business, and even training and racing. Last year was such a massive learning curve I think, for all of us. I fell off the bandwagon and into a pretty dark place, especially in the last couple of months and even getting COVID 😖. Sometimes, all that’s needed is a little hope, which for me, comes in the form of forward thinking, planning, actionable and realistic goal-setting. And I think it’s so important to not be so hard on yourself and instead, to be kind and commit to patience.Something else that’s helped me is revamping both my office, as well as the space in my home that brings me the most peace, and that is of course my bedroom, surrounded by windows that look out to the Santa Monica Mountains ⛰. I’m so so happy to have had the opportunity to partner with @floyddetroit for this incredible walnut bed with headboard and under-bed storage (swipe 👉🏼 to see) with a super sleek and minimalistic design. I thought the perfect accent to this new bed would be a few new pieces from @the_citizenry, obsessed with their aesthetic! I snagged this gorgeous jute rug, woven bed throw and Aztec pillow to just create a warm, minimal and cozy setting. As you can see, Kish loves the new digs, too ☺️.I wouldn’t say the first bit of 2021 has been great so far, but the hope and planning is there, and there’s a lot that lies ahead. Definitely being more mindful, present, and working on self-healing as well. But seriously, go check out @floyddetroit and @the_citizenry if you’re looking for a revamp! I think we could all use a fresh start and outlook this year ✨Wearing @loversfriendsla @revolve #revolvewinter
Nothing more fitting than a moody end of year edit Nothing more fitting than a moody end of year edit with an outfit I never got to wear out due to stay at home orders. But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy wearing it on occasion on my porch with a glass of bubbly and mi gato. Kind of enjoyed the forced solitude of this year, if we’re looking on the bright side. I needed it. Hoorah to have crossed the finish line of 2020. You deserve a drink... or a cat. ☺️🥂✨What was your favorite moment of 2020? 🤔Wearing @revolve #revolvewinter @itsnbd

I took this pic right after Ironman Florida and it I took this pic right after Ironman Florida and it was one of the last pics of me (and Kishie) living in Boulder. I was so ecstatic with having just finished my first Ironman and also with this fresh powder 🤤. I can’t be the only one who truly enjoys feeling the extreme heat and frigid cold once and awhile.Today, I was thinking about how much I miss living in Boulder during the winter months and training at RallySport. The atmosphere, the community of Boulder, was something that I had never encountered anywhere else in the world. I’m working really hard at this point in my life so that I can one day, live and train in Boulder in the fall and winter months, and CA in the spring and summer months. I’d love to be able to divide my time equally every year. While I realize that that is indeed a luxury, we also only have one life, so if we want something that bad, we might as well go after it. ♥️Sitting here with this massive Pandemic going on, with literally death and destruction all around, I’m clearly reminiscing hardcore on the good times. Reminiscing on that of freedom and exploration and, yes, knowing that my next race will be on. I miss that, among many other things, including the health and prosperity of humanity and this planet 🌎.Perhaps I’ll one day miss 2020 though, and the things I produced and ways I’d changed. The way the world sort of, woke up, on many levels, and the realizations that were unearthed. The fragility of it all and how fleeting our moments really are. Life is always bittersweet as a memory. 🌬✨
When traveling is made too easy and comfortable, i When traveling is made too easy and comfortable, its spiritual meaning is lost. This may be called sentimentalism, but a certain sense of loneliness engendered by traveling leads one to reflect upon the meaning of life, for life is after all a travelling from one unknown to another unknown. 🌑

I told myself I’d never be that 30 year old cat I told myself I’d never be that 30 year old cat lady, because society tells us “guys like girls who like dogs, not cats”. But alas, here I am at 31 with no fucks given to what some stranger deems “cool” or not 😎. My heart is full to an incredible living being that depends on me every day and who won’t make excuses to travel the world 🌏😉.And, to that, there’s something so much greater in life in becoming a wholesome individual, and it has nothing to do with what type of pet you own or whether or not you’ve graduated college. Being inspired by our own company and solidarity, I think, is so important. It’s something that took me a decade to feel fully comfortable with, but the growth has been incredible. Sometimes it takes a solo trip in nature to a new place to embrace that fire within 🍃.I was raised to realize my own capabilities and throughout my twenties and now thirties, there’ve been endless ideas that I conjure up within my mind and execute through use of my body, things that perhaps would have never come to fruition had I, for the most part, been constantly preoccupied and engaged with others ✨.By making that sacrifice at 20, by diving in head first, I was able to hone in on what mattered to me in life; create goals, and over time, churn those goals into an incredible reality and legacy 🗺.Dog man or cat lady, cat man or dog lady, true strength of character lies within. Your character is who you are in your darkest hours when you’re alone (which we’ve all had plenty of this year). What scares you and where do you find your strength to fight it? What are your dreams for yourself and the world and how will you use your body and mind to achieve them? How will you use what you have, to create a positive legacy?And... for the record, I love dogs too, and that’s why I choose getaways that are both dog AND cat friendly 🐶🐱. So, thank you to @treelinerentals for hosting @mrkishmere and I. It was this space in solitude where I was able to write and work on a project I’d been procrastinating with while in LA 📚.Do you find pleasure in solo travel? And if so, do you bring your dog or cat along? 🕊Wearing @revolve #revolve @loversfriendsla
