At age twenty-seven, Cassie De Pecol accomplished something remarkable. She became the first woman on record to travel to every country on Earth, and did it faster than anyone in history, male or female. She was inspired by her experiences on the Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid: both the three weeks she spent in the Panamanian wilderness and the cyberbullying she endured after the show. And it opened her eyes to the need for women to make a difference in the world.

In Expedition 196, Cassie shares the secrets behind her personal triumphs and miraculous achievements. It’s the story of a dreamer and a doer who went from restless college dropout to fearless adventurer to philanthropist and humanitarian activist dedicated to female empowerment and global sustainability.

Thrilling, inspiring, and unforgettable, Expedition 196 views the world through the eyes of one extraordinary young woman whose heart took her farther than most people can even imagine.

This is a great read! I’ve followed Cassie on Instagram for a while and she is such an open and honest person. I really respect her willingness to be the same way in this book, instead of just glossing over the hardships and focusing on her incredible accomplishment, which she easily could have done. I’m inspired by women like Cassie who follow their passions wholeheartedly and unabashedly share themselves with the world. We could all use more of that courage, vulnerability, and empathy. Recognizing the humanity that connects us all is what truly is at the heart of travel; it’s clear that through her journey and reflection, Cassie understands this best of all.

This book was inspiring to me. Cassie is truly a role model to all women. I hope more women will go out and travel the world.

I first learned about Cassie from one of the travel bloggers I follow when she completed Expedition 196. I was excited when I saw she wrote a book about her epic journey. I purchased the ebook version and completed it in a few hours. I do wish there had been more of her accounts of some of her visits, but I did enjoy the ones she included. If she had included stories from every country, it would have been a very lengthy book! What I loved most about Cassie’s story was her unyielding focus and determination to complete her goals, which included breaking two Guinness World Records. I enjoyed her account of some of the extensive preparation she completed for her journey, along with some of the criteria that Guinness required for proof of her travel. I also loved her brutally honest discussion about a lot of the personal issues she’s faced over the years. I get the impression from a lot of the hate she receives on social media that many people feel she’s nothing more than a beautiful, overprivileged girl, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I see an intelligent, skilled, focused, genuine lady who is determined to make a difference in our world. I hope that Cassie’s story inspires more women to strive to achieve more, to be a little less afraid, to dare to achieve what has never been accomplished before and to never give up on your goals or your dreams. You are a true inspiration, Cassie.

I first discovered Cassie via Instagram about halfway through her expedition. I had been following her intently, and always rooting for her success. I excitedly pre ordered this book, and unsurprisingly enjoyed the read! Though I wish there were more in depth stories, but like others have said, Cassie would like to keep some memories to herself and nobody should argue that. I just can’t help but be fascinated by her life! If she wrote another book I would absolutely read it! I am very intrigued by this journey of hers and would love to keep learning more! It is very evident how hard she had to work to make this happen for herself, and I can only wish her the best and strength to drown out the hate she gets from obtaining this record!

I admire Cassie for setting such a high goal for herself and for women as a whole. It takes a certain type of determination to achieve a record such as fastest women to travel to every country. Her book shares insights into what it took to plan her journey, the obstacles she faced throughout, the highlights and lowlights, and what she learned about herself from accomplishing her goal. I do wish there were more details about the journey (even though she states early on she simply wants to save those memories for herself, which I respect). There wasn’t much detail about what she did in each country other than documenting being there. Overall inspiring read. It encourages me to stop making excuses and accomplish my own travel goals.

I really am loving this book! Such an interesting and inspiring story of how Cassie started, planned and executed her Expedition 196 from pitching media, planning visas, compiling with all the Guinness record rules to learning Krav Maga as self defense. As a female solo traveler, I enjoyed reading how she did it and why she did it and her stories from a few countries. Would recommend!

An easy, yet inspiring read! While I do wish that there had been more personal accounts of individual countries (maybe an idea for future books?), I enjoyed the book cover to cover. As a woman, it’s inspiring to read Cassie’s story of stepping into places many of us have never been. Additionally, it encouraged me to travel solo and explore more!
