Prior to 2020, my entire life revolved around travel and my career - burning myself out traveling the world, racing Ironmans around the world, filling my schedule, feeling immensely pressured, and pushing myself to my limits. Then 2020 turned a page, and things slowed down… for longer than expected. By 2022, I was ready for life to pick back up again - to be busy, travel, race - until everything came to a head, yet again.Life at that point for me, sort of stopped, or at least, took a break… without my consent. I always try to shift my view and figure out how to make the best out of the worst of situations in life. Of course I wallow in the darkness for a bit when it first hits - but I can’t stay there for long. I plan for the future, for when I can emerge with power and grace, for when these trying times are all said and done. And I try to enjoy the present moments, focusing only on the things that bring me joy. Even if I’ve had a rough day, I make sure to be kind to myself, and reward myself with a few of the things from my list of 20 simple things that bring me joy. I’ve finally mastered this practice. 🍃One regret from Expedition 196 (my trip around the world), was that I didn’t plan for what I was going to make of my life and my career when it was all said and done. I’ve learned my lesson. And that planning and execution, along with honoring my peace and self worth, is what gives me hope. In the past when hard times have hit, depression owned me and I felt I had no way out. But I’ve since learned now how to maintain my sense of self, to seek out that positive flow, and I know what I need focus on to avoid or *stall* slipping into that darkness.While I’m in this *blip* in life, unable to focus my efforts on the things I’d spent the last 15 years executing, I find immense solace, release and content in focusing on the very things that I do have in my control: my body and my mind. 🏃🏼‍♀️If you’re going through a hard time, too, bring it back to your most basic elements; focus on those, become an expert in the mechanics of your mind and body, so when you do emerge from this dark space in time, you actually come out… stronger. 🏋🏼‍♀️
